An exclusive haul of Seventies Soul for the collector, enthusiast and lover of uptempo, feel-good grooves…
WELCOME aboard USS SOUL, laden with a precious rare soul cargo anthologized from the dust of forgotten 45s and LPs. And it’s “Smooth Sailing” all the way with the seldom heard, falsetto rendering of the Temptations 1971 Detroit classic that bears our album title and represents our aspiration to blend the obscure with the crème of American black music royalty. Here we celebrate the overlooked Freddy Briggs (aka Coldwate Stone), the former Chicago Gangsters (the Harmonics), the former Metros (Liberation), the unknown Mary Mundy, and the rarest of the rare offering by Chuck Ray.
By contrast, we also showcase largely ignored recordings by the likes of PRINCE with 94 East, chart-topping AL WILSON (infamously quoted by Donald Trump on his ill-fated campaign trail), Grammy Award winner AL JARREAU, America’s TV cop Christie Love aka TERESA GRAVES, and multi-chart-busters the OHIO PLAYERS.
