Heartbroken Memories

SOUL CITY RECORDS is back with a stunning new collection bringing together the debut Philly soul sides by The Three Degrees for the very first time on vinyl. 

Ten years before The Three Degrees achieved international recognition with their global hit “When Will I See You Again” they were carving an identity with writer/producer Richard Barrett for a local Philly label, Swan Records. As this wonderfully-curated collection demonstrates, though the group’s appeal may not have had the major impact the trio would later experience, a number of recordings on this appropriately-titled ‘Heartbroken Memories’ album found fame and resonance on the Northern Soul scene, in particular with tracks such as “Gotta Draw The Line,” “Do What You're Supposed To Do”, “Are You Satis-fied” and “Contact.”

The group’s origins stem from when Richard Barrett auditioned three local teenagers to form a female trio which he envisioned would achieve success beyond his work with The Chantels. Now, courtesy of David Nathan (Soul City co-founder), we revisit the foundation of one of the world’s most popular and enduring girl groups.
