The original mic reggae master returns to wax!
For the first time ever, I-Roy’s Crisus Time comes back to vinyl, fully remastered and restored to mark 50 years since its original release in 1976.
A cornerstone of roots DJ culture, this long-lost treasure now steps forward again in a deluxe anniversary edition made for true reggae heads and vinyl collectors.
Recorded at the height of his powers and produced by the legendary Bunny “Striker” Lee, Crisus Time captures I-Roy at a pivotal moment in Jamaican music and politics. Cut at Channel One with the Aggrovators and mixed by King Tubby, the album rides heavyweight rockers rhythms first voiced by Johnny Clarke, reshaped here into urgent DJ statements. Released during Jamaica’s turbulent 1976 State of Emergency, it channels the unrest, spirituality and social conscience of the era, marking I-Roy’s first album to focus almost entirely on cultural, political and Rastafarian themes. More than a DJ record, it stands as a frontline document of roots reggae’s most militant and creative period.
This exclusive Record Store Day vinyl release features a faithful replica of the original 1976 sleeve, plus a new printed inner sleeve with fresh liner notes by acclaimed reggae writer John Masouri and a full-page black-and-white photo of the man I-Roy - a fitting tribute to one of Jamaica’s most original voices.
