Between 1969 and 1973, a small, indie label based in Paris seemed alone in supporting black, African American and multi-cultural artists shunned by their home countries. BYG became those artists’ home and a haven for a series of seminal recordings that were uncompromising and full of new sounds. Whether it was avant-garde, prog rock, free jazz, psychedelic rock, experimental electronica, all had a home.
Now almost 50 years since merging with Charly Records, founder Jean-Luc Young (the “Y” in BYG) is relaunching the label with an exclusive limited edition sampler LP and CD which preview an exciting and varied album release schedule:
“BYG were passionate in supporting diversity, against prejudice and narrow-mindedness so I am proud we fought for all our artists and their music, no matter what they were, who they were or where they were from.
